It's OK, but the problem with Emma's version is it just doesn't have the sophistication of Mono's original version. And Emma doesn't sound sexy... she just sounds a bit bored.

Did we really need a cover of this? it's boringly produced and she does seem disnterested. However I do like the image that she has tried to cultivate over the past few years, very in keeping with this blog. Something tells me she'd have more success covering Jacky's "White Horses" (and I love that song)

I've never heard the original so I can't pass comment on that, but I do know that I REAAAAALLLY like it!

I'm afraid I have to agree that Emma's version leaves a lot to be desired.
Maybe it's just because the original was so fabulous (almost outdoing Saint Etienne at their own game).
I do have a soft spot for Emma though : "maybe" was rather fantastic and at least she's not as desperate for fame like her former band-mates and she tries to do something classy and different ...
It's a pitty she doesn't really pull it of on this cover of "life in mono", but who knows there might be some "maybe" style nuggets on the album (I hope)

I quite like it, Mordi! And that's unlike me. This seems like something I'd normally prefer the original of, but I quite like what they've done with it. Which isn't a lot, so it stays tasteful, but there's something in the production that nicely shows off Emma's voice and makes it sound a little like a mellow 70s ballad from a washed-up 60s pop star. It does bring out something interestingly retro about her voice, and it's nice to see that her people made a good decision about what suits her.

I'm now listening to the entire album and have to say am mightily impressed. Who would have thought that of all the Spicies , Baby would be the one to leave the others way behind in her pursuit of pop brilliance. She and her producers have managed to combine the best elements of her last two albums into one gorgeous coherent production. Lush sounds, melodic choruses. This is what true popmusic is all about!
